NICTD West Lake Corridor
The Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District’s existing service provides an essential transportation link connecting Northwestern Indiana to Chicago, IL. Quandel provided planning, engineering, and operations expertise for the West Lake Corridor which is a proposed 9 mile extension of NICTD’s current service along the Indiana – Illinois state line to Dyer, IN. The additional passenger rail service between Chicago and Northwest Indiana increases accessibility and mobility in rush hour periods and economic development in Lake County, IN.
Quandel developed alignment designs for various proposed route alternatives. Using the developed alignment designs, with designed cross-sections, Quandel developed a proposed right of way used to evaluate the line’s impact on surrounding property
Quandel developed service schedules and timetables for the West Lake Corridor’s operations. Computer modeling software was utilized to simulate existing operations and assess the impacts of additional passenger trains operating on existing networks.
