Case Description

Project Description

The Dearborn to Ypsilanti Second Track Project adds nine miles of new second mainline track, three new crossover interlockings and rehabilitation of 18 grade crossings on the MDOT-owned accelerated rail corridor carrying Amtrak Wolverine Service between Chicago and Detroit/Pontiac. The project was developed through coordination between the Michigan Department of Transportation, Norfolk Southern Railway, Amtrak and the Federal Railroad Administration.

Services Provided

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industrys standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.
  • Engineering Quandel supported MDOT on their first high-speed rail track construction project by developing the track and civil design documentation including plans, specifications and engineer’s estimate. Quandel utilized aerial-LiDAR survey and Bentley RailTrack software to generate the track alignment design and civil design in accordance with Amtrak Spec 63 and AREMA recommended practices. Quandel developed a specification package using NS standards for track and MDOT standards for roadway construction.
  • Construction Management Quandel is supporting the construction of the project by providing both as-needed field and office engineering staff. Quandel staff assist MDOT with daily project needs such as analyzing field data, completing plan revisions, inspecting recently constructed track components, generating as-built drawings, and coordinating with the operating and maintaining railroads.
